SCOPING

Whether scoping to full audio (my standard practice) or spot-checking audio (available on request), I read every word of the transcript for context, word usage, homophones, and spelling. I also address punctuation and formatting issues throughout the transcript.

My scoping service includes the following:

  • Inserting punctuation as needed throughout the transcript per reporter preferences;
  • Inserting missing bylines and parentheticals as needed throughout the transcript;
  • Correcting misidentified speakers as needed throughout the transcript;
  • Filling in drops as needed throughout the transcript;
  • Correcting mistranslated steno as found throughout the transcript;
  • Defining untranslated steno as found throughout the transcript;
  • Resolving conflicts as needed throughout the transcript;
  • Researching to confirm correct spellings of personal names, company names, brand names, place names, cities, streets, medical terminology, prescription drugs, and technical terminology pertaining to the subject matter at hand;
  • Flagging areas in the transcript needing the reporter's attention for any issues not resolved during scoping;
  • Leaving hidden notes in the transcript with suggestions for reporter consideration;
  • Running spell check.

Please Note:
  • Drafting the caption, appearance, index, and certification pages is not included in my standard scoping service.  However, I will edit those pages for spelling, punctuation, and formatting if they are included with the transcript.
  • Auto-indexing is not included in my standard scoping service.
  • A scoped transcript is not a final product. Proofreading is necessary.

PROOFREADING

When proofreading your transcript, I read every word of the transcript for context, word usage, homophones, and spelling. I also address punctuation and formatting issues throughout the transcript and utilize audio sync for spot-checking.

My proofreading service includes the following:

Line-by-line review of transcript for errors in punctuation and spelling; review for accuracy and consistency all dates, names, addresses, page numbers, and exhibit numbers used throughout the transcript; review of subject-specific terminology used within the transcript; and any additional research necessary to determine accuracy and correct use of language and content.

Transcripts should be scoped and as close to turn-in ready as possible when submitted for proofing.
Transcripts should be spell-checked prior to being submitted for proofing.
